Dolls

I wonder when it began. My guess is since I was a little girl. Growing up, I learn many things. Whether it is actually good, only god knows. My preferences, what is the value of pi, how lenz’s and faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction work. That’s a snippet of it all. Gaining experience and killing many things with a stone, the next thing you know, you’re someone else, say Taylor Swift (may god have mercy on my soul). As such, life.

Things can get scary along the way. Seeking refuge, is a must. The house is too big a place, shared between random beings you’ve known all your life. No wonder privacy don’t really exist there. It lacks air to breathe. Don’t get me started on space. Everyone is curious one way or another. I wonder what my sister is doing right now…

That’s why its invented I guess. Dolls - to bring comfort, joy and entertainment to all. Funny how a non-living thing can give warmth to many people when it can be so, so cold all at the same time. The world is full of contradictions. I guess this is also the reason why walls are built between people, literally even. Dolls are much more trustworthy after all. They don’t tattle their way through. Some may but all they’d ever say are things us humans yearn to hear. An example would be ‘I love you’. Of course, exceptions are inevitable.

I always thought toys for adults are different. However, the only difference I see is the way they perceive this word as. Apart from the standard things a normal toy can give, adults want something more - response. To something substantial and non-tangible such as feelings, reactions etc. ‘Things like cars can’t respond to feelings! What on earth is this poor, unfortunate girl babbling about?’ It can alright, look at Herbie. Alright, jokes aside. While the words said by a regular doll sounds the same, it tends to be rather empty. As opposed to the words coming from another soul.

While I sound heartless categorising people as an alternate form of toy, the feelings all of us harbour towards the people that matters is somewhat similar to the feelings we have towards the toys that we used to play and treasure when we were young… or now, still.

Toys. People. They are just replacements for each other at the end of the day. Either that or they are mistaken for each other, which is a really creepy and sad thing. Now that send shivers down my spine. Anyway, at least that is the conclusion I came up with after this long, pointless post.

With such heights, a false summit. Glen Duncan must’ve been a genius. Affirmative.

At this point of time, I can’t help but wonder if this is all worth it. If I were to be the typical Singaporean, I’d say yes without hesitation. After all, isn’t being pragmatic one of the traits of being asian/ Singaporean? As stereotypical as that may be, i’m sure at least some of ya’ll would agree that THAT is one of the ‘ingredients’ that is necessary for one to be able to survive in this concrete jungle. Bummer. I don’t even know what I want to do with my life regardless of whether I make the cut or not.

I believe freedom is merely an ideology that people create to keep themselves sane from the hectic schedule/ lifestyle they’ve been living with all their lives. After all, freedom itself IS tied with responsibility. So, I often wonder. What does it truly mean to be free? After living for 19 years, I’ve only had a sip of what it tastes like and that, itself, felt like a dream.

Initially, I thought death is the key to freedom. I was wrong. Not that I know what death is like but the thought of having to live life in hell for eternity is definitely something not worth looking forward to. After all, the thought of going to heaven never crossed my mind. At times, I would think God hates me for being as such; constantly deviating further from Him.

I know. God is willing to forgive and accept anyone who is willing to change for the better. I know that much. I just have doubts because i’m flawed. Excuses.

Time waits for no one and here I am, typing my life away. Depressed, you say? Nope. This is just me. Stripped naked to the core.
